“Vision is the art of seeing things invisible.”

- Jonathan Swift

The Dublin Swift was once a force to be reckoned with, but she was in need of a transformation…

The Madden team stepped on board to design and deliver a full refit that would regenerate this elite military vessel for a new challenge: providing luxury for Irish Ferries’ guests.

Following an initial survey of the ship, our recommendation was to completely strip the existing deck before carrying out a full refit. A range of completely new, state of the art facilities from passenger areas to Wi-Fi and infrastructure such as CCTV were fitted by the Madden team.

Everything in the Dublin Swift’s shop was expertly crafted right in our Belfast workspace, including the gondolas, shelving and till counters to the highest standard possible. In addition we upholstered 800 seats.

We reinvigorated the vessel and the results speak for themselves.

Project In Brief:

  • Rebuild passenger deck for a former American military vessel – the ship was known as the Westpac Express before it was the Dublin Swift!
  • New facilities included a restaurant, café, club class area, shop, passenger toilets, galley, IT services and security cameras.
  • Over 800 seats reupholstered.
  • Refit carried out in drydock.

Outcome(s):

  • Project delivered on time and to budget in April 2018, ahead of seasonal passenger increases.
  • Client very happy with outcome of works.
  • A number of positive reviews  – including in the Irish Times and Cruise and Ferry Magazine
